The humour in the original trilogy was natural, with the new movies they are trying way too hard and packing in silly jokes that don't need to be there. the opening of the film was a 2 minute long "yo momma" joke.

Not sure but I'd imagine they wanted her in the next film... otherwise if they knew Carrie Fisher was going to die they probably would have done...

I thought it was pretty entertaining but for three things.
1. The Mary Poppins bit with Leia. That was just an opportunity missed to kill her off.
2. What was the point of Benicio del Toro's stammer. Similar to the weird voice that Forest Whittaker did in Rogue One. Was just annoying.
3. The comedy. Luke was supposed to have been on this exile for ages, and he wasn't a fun character before. So why was he throwing light sabres over his head, and messing around with a twig when trying to teach Rey about the force.
Apart from those things, there were some really good bits. Especially the scene in Snoke's chamber.

The casino bit was shit- more pirates of the caribbean than star wars- I think they just needed to give the Fin character something to actually do during the film, and he needed a sidekick, hence the Asian girl.. Just an embarrassing side quest that ultimately served no real purpose and give the producers the chance to shoehorn in some heavy handed moral message about animal cruelty and arms dealing.
I didn't really see the point of those sort of toad washerwomen things on Luke's island either. Just a bit of pointless comic relief but totally ruined the idea of him being in a self imposed glorious exile of solitude.
Those gripes aside, still a really entertaining film full of great special effects. Great way to spend three hours munching popcorn and sweets.

you can't go applying too much logic to films like this Eddie
otherwise you start to wonder why when Luke Skywalker was a kid and had to hidden from his father they hid him on his fathers home planet with his fathers uncle and did't even bother to change his name
or why at the very start of the very first movie released the Star Destroyer didn't just blast the rebel ship out of the sky

What was the point of the little Chinese bird? In fact, what was the point of that whole fucking mission they went on?
If the long necked tart had told them what she was doing, instead of keeping it secret (for no reason at all), then they wouldn't have needed to go on that pathetic trip to that stupid planet.
Also, the flyboy saying "But we brought down a Dreadnought!" Yeah but you killed about 40 of your colleagues in the process, so was it really that worth it? They'll just build another.
The whole thing was a fucking mess.

And what the fuck was the point of Captain Phasma, or whatever she was called? Hardly in the first film, turns up again in this one, hardly in it again, insists on fighting the black fella one on one all the time, only stormtrooper to not get killed when hit by a blaster. A complete waste of time.

Prowse was the man..I'd be interested to watch that doc.
Totally agree what's being said about the franchise. But for me to put it simpley I ain't paid to watch any Star Wars since Ep3 when the kids were still smallish. And I have to say I'm glad I haven't. If people still want to get into it fair play.
